EP 2.0: Budget

On the Budget page, you can view and set monthly budgets for the metered capacity usage in a pool.

A monthly budget puts a limit on the amount that can be spent each month on metered capacity. If you do not want to limit the amount that can be spent in a month on metered capacity, you can set the monthly budget to unlimited.

When budgeting is enforced for a pool, a monthly budget cannot be exceeded. Therefore, when a monthly budget is reached, processor throttling starts on all the systems in the pool to limit the core usage on each system to its purchased base capacity. Throttling for a pool is indicated with the throttling icon , which is displayed next to the pool name

When budgeting is not enforced for a pool, a monthly budget can be exceeded. Therefore, when a monthly budget is reached, processor throttling is not started to limit metered capacity consumption and metered capacity charges continue to accrue. The remaining budget for the month will be shown as negative.

Budgeting is not enforced for pools that allow dedicated processor partitions.

You can set a monthly budget to zero.   When the first metered minute for the current month is consumed:

• When budgeting is enforced, each system in the pool is throttled to use only its base core capacity gradually over the next 4 days. Notification of pool throttling is sent.
• A "Monthly Budget Met" notification is sent to indicate that the current month's budget has been reached.

You can set the budget for the current month or future months on the Budget page. You can set a budget to multiple credits or to unlimited. You can change the default budget setting for the pool. When you change the default budget setting, all future months that have the current default budget settings are changed to the new default budget setting.

For pools using prepaid capacity credits, you can view the real-time remaining credit balance and the budget for the current month in the upper right corner of the Budget page. You can configure remaining credit balance and budget notifications on the Settings page for the pool. You always receive a notification when your remaining credit balance reaches 0, and a monthly budget limit is reached. Even when budgeting is not enforced for a pool, budget notifications are still functional.

If your remaining credit balance stays at or below 0 for 30 consecutive days, processor throttling starts on all the systems in the pool  to limit the core usage on each system to its purchased base capacity. Metered capacity charges continue to accrue after the remaining credit balance reaches 0. The remaining credit balance will be shown as negative.

For pools with monthly billing, you can view the real-time Month-To-Date Credits Used and the remaining budget for the current month in the upper right corner of the page. You can configure budget notifications on the Settings page for the pool. You always receive a notification when a monthly budget limit is reached. Even when budgeting is not enforced for a pool, budget notifications are still functional.

Click Purchase Credits to open the Entitled Systems Support (ESS) website in a new browser tab. You can purchase more credits for a pool using prepaid capacity credits in the ESS website (where available). If you purchase more credits for the pool, click Refresh Capacity to update the credits in the EP 2.0 app. The Purchase Credits button is not shown for pools with monthly billing. 

Expand View Credit Rates to display the credit rates for the metered resource types. The credit rates are expressed as the number of minutes per credit for each of the metered resource types. You can view the current, past, and future credit rates. You receive notifications when new credit rates become available, and when new credit rates go into effect.

Click Export CSV to export the monthly budget amounts and metered capacity usage to a file in CSV format.
