To view the performance of your managed system, select a performance metric. The drop-down list on the Systems page shows the following performance metrics:
Core Usage
When you select Core Usage from the list, the page displays current core usage, managed system details, core usage graphs, and core usage for each partition in the system.
Current Core Usage
The Current Core Usage area displays the processor usage of the partition, including current processing units available for use, the total number of allocated processors, the number of inactive, installed, and activated processors in the managed system.
Important: The Usage value displayed on this page is calculated based on the idle cycles selection on the Capacity Monitoring Settings page.
System Description
The System Description area displays the state of the managed system, the MTM serial number, the list of Hardware Management Console (HMC) to which the managed system is connected and the number of partitions in the managed system.
The number of partitions indicates the total number of partitions and Virtual I/O Servers (VIOS) present in the managed system. A managed system can be connected to more than one HMC.
Export CSV
To export the data displayed in the Partition Core Usage table, clickExport CSV. Three compressed files are exported that contain:
- Information about the graphical view of the current core usage.
- List of core usage peaks for the managed system
- The number of partitions.
Export Granular Data
To export up to 24 hours of minute-level core and memory usage data for a system click Export Granular Data. Use one of the two options that are available in the Export Granular Data pop-up window:
- Quick Selection – Click the button for the number of hours prior to the current time for which you want to export the minute-level data. For example, to export data for the past 24 hours, click Last 24 hours.
- Advanced Selection – Select the starting date and time and the number of hours for which you want to export the minute-level data. For example, if you select the date as 1 October, the time as 08:00 a.m., and click Last 12 hours, the data from 01 October 08:00 a.m. to 01 October 08:00 p.m. will be exported.
After you select the minute-level data you want to export, click Export CSV. The data is downloaded as a .zip file that contains multiple .csv files. To export minute-level data for other dates or times, click Export More Data, and specify a different date or time.
Note: This feature exports only core and memory usage data.
Important: The exported CSV files reflect the core usage data based on the idle cycles selection on the Capacity Monitoring Settings page.
Date Range
You can view a pictorial representation of the current core usage in the form of a graph. The Y-axis represents the total core usage, and the X-axis represents the date and time.
The graph displays a blue line for the core usage, along with a dotted line that specifies the activated cores in the managed system. The red line indicates the peak usage of the cores in the managed system. The core usage values, thresholds, and peak indicators also reflect the idle cycles selection.
By default, the graph displays the core usage for the current day. You can modify the date range by using the calendar displayed below the Date Range field or select the date range from the available options. For example, if you select Last 24 Hours, the core usage for the last twenty-four hours is displayed in the graph.
You can move your cursor through the graph to see the core usage value for different date ranges in the graph. Click and drag a specific date range to view the average, minimum and maximum core usage for the selected date range. Click Zoom to view the core usage for the specific date range in the graph. After you click Zoom, the graph changes and displays the core usage only for the specific date range.
Important:
- For HMC version HMC 10.3.1060 and later, you can view core usage by either including or excluding idle cycles based on the idle cycles selection on the Capacity Monitoring Settings page.
- For HMC versions earlier than HMC 10.3.1060, only core usage including idle cycles is available.
- When the core usage excluding idle cycles is shown as a stacked graph for partitions on HMC 10.3.1050 and HMC 10.3.1060, a value of zero (0) is shown for HMC 10.3.1050.
The Update Table button is enabled only when you select a date range in the graph. To view the updated data of the core usage for a specific date range in the Performance History table, click Update Table. You can also view the updated average core usage value for the selected date range under the Avg Core Usage (%) column of the Partition Core Usage table.
Performance History
In the Performance History area, you can view the following information:
- Current core usage of the managed system
- Average core usage peaks for the managed system during the selected date range
- Minimum and maximum amount of core usage for the managed system during the selected date rang
- The number and details of each peak, including the start time and the duration, average core peak usage in percentage, and the minimum and maximum amount of core peak usage in percentage, that happened during the selected date range
Important: All values in the Performance History section, including current usage, averages, minimum and maximum values, and peak calculations, are based on the idle cycles selection on the Capacity Monitoring Settings page.
Partition Core Usage
The Partition Core Usage table lists all partitions that are associated with the managed system. You can also search for a managed system by entering the search string in the Search text box.
For each partition, you can view the following information:
- Partition name or the partition ID
- Operating System (OS) type of the partition
- Current core usage of the partition. This value changes based on your idle cycles selection.
- Average core usage of the partition during the selected date range
- Number of entitled cores
- Number of virtual processors
- Number of core usage peaks for the partition during the selected date range
- Central processing unit (CPU) mode
- Shared processor pool information

Tags associated with the partition.
You can view details about the tag by clicking the tag icon.
Memory Allocation
When you select Memory Allocation from the list, the page displays current memory allocation, managed system details, total memory allocation graphs, and the memory allocation for each partition in the system.
Current Memory Allocation
The Current Memory Allocation area displays details about the available, allocated and installed memory in a managed system, the number of inactive and activated processors in the managed system. Information about the Virtual Persistent Memory allocated in this system is also available here.
System Description
The System Description area displays details about the state, MTM serial, list of HMCs to which the managed system is connected, and the number of partitions in the managed system.
Export CSV
To export the data displayed in the Partition Memory Allocation table, click Export CSV. Three compressed files are exported that contain:
- Information about the graphical view of the current core usage.
- List of core usage peaks for the managed system
- The number of partitions.
Export Granular Data
To export up to 24 hours of minute-level memory allocation data for a system click Export Granular Data.

Performance History
In the Performance History for System Memory Allocation area, you can view the following information:
- Current allocated memory in percentage
- Average allocated memory that is consumed by the managed system during the selected date range
- Minimum allocated memory
- Maximum allocated memory
- Number and details of each peak including the start time and the duration, average memory peak usage in percentage, and the minimum and maximum amount of memory peak usage in percentage, that happened during the selected date range
Partition Memory Allocation
The Partition Memory Allocation table displays the memory allocation for the list of all partitions that are associated with the managed system. For each partition, you can view the following information:
- Partition name or the partition ID
- Operating System (OS) type of the partition
- Current allocated memory for the partition
- Average allocated memory for the partition during the selected date range
- Minimum amount of allocated memory for the time duration
- Maximum amount of allocated memory for the time duration
- Tags associated with the partition. You can view details about the tag by clicking the tag icon
Network Traffic
When you select Network Traffic from the list, the page displays the current network traffic, managed system details, current virtual network traffic graphs, and the virtual network traffic for each partition in the system.
You can view specific network traffic information by selecting either All Traffic, single root I/O virtualization (SRIOV) Traffic, or Host Ethernet Adapter (HEA) Traffic from the list.
Current Network Traffic
For All Traffic, the Current Network Traffic area displays the number of SRIOV physical ports that are present in the shared mode, the number of HEA physical ports in the managed system, the number of adapters in VIOSs, the total number of VIOS present in the managed system, and the number of bytes sent and received.
For SRIOV Traffic, the Current Network Traffic area displays the number of SRIOV physical ports that are present in the shared mode and the number of bytes that were sent and received.
For HEA Traffic, the Current Network Traffic area displays the number of HEA physical ports that are present in the shared mode the number of bytes that were sent and received.
System Description
The System Description area displays the state, MTM serial number, list of HMCs to which the managed system is connected, and the number of partitions present in the managed system.
Export CSV
To export the data displayed in the Partition Virtual Network Traffic table, click Export CSV. Three compressed files are exported that contain:
- Information about the graphical view of the current network traffic
- The network traffic of each partition
- The network traffic performance history for the selected date and time
Date Range
You can view a pictorial representation of the current network traffic in the form of a graph. The Y-axis represents the bytes and packets sent and received, and the X-axis represents the date and time.
Data
The graph displays a solid dark purple line that specifies bytes that are sent by the network, along with a solid light purple line that specifies bytes that are received by the network. The dotted line indicates that data is not available.
Packets
The graph displays a solid dark purple line that specifies the sent packets along with a solid light purple line that specifies the received packets. The dotted line indicates that data is not available.
By default, the graph displays the network traffic for the current day. Performance History
The Performance History area displays the following information:
- Current sent bytes
- Average sent bytes
- Minimum number of sent bytes
- Maximum number of sent bytes
- Current received bytes
- Average received bytes
- Minimum number of bytes received
- Maximum number of bytes received
Partition Virtual Network Traffic
The Partition Virtual Network Traffic table displays the network traffic details for the list of all partitions that are associated with the managed system. For each partition, you can view the following information:
- Partition name or the partition ID
- Operating System (OS) type of the partition
- VSwitch name and the VLan ID
- Current number of bytes or packets that are sent in the network
- Average number of bytes or packets that are sent in the network
- Current number of bytes or packets that are received in the network
- Average number of bytes or packets that are received in the network
- Tags associated with the partition. You can view details about the tag by clicking the tag icon
Storage Traffic
When you select Storage Traffic from the list, the page displays the current storage traffic, managed system details, current storage traffic graphs, and the storage traffic for each partition of the system.
Current Storage Traffic
The Current Storage Traffic area displays the number of adapters, number of VIOSs, number of bytes that are read per second, and the number of bytes that are written per second.
System Description
The System Description area displays the state, MTM serial number, list of HMCs to which the managed system is connected, and the number of partitions present in the managed system.

To export the data displayed in the Partition Storage Traffic table, click Export CSV. Three compressed files are exported that contain:
- Information about the graphical view of the current storage traffic
- The storage traffic of each partition
- The storage traffic performance history for the selected date and time

- Average write bytes
- Minimum number of bytes written
- Maximum number of bytes written
Partition Storage Traffic
The Partition Storage Traffic table displays the storage traffic for the list of all partitions that are associated with the managed system. For each partition, you can view the following information:
- Partition name or the partition ID

Power Usage
When you select Power Usage from the list, the page displays current power usage, managed system details, current power usage graphs, and the power usage of each partition in the system.

The Partition Power Usage table lists all partitions that are associated with the managed system. You can also search for a managed system by entering the search string in the Search text box.
For each partition, you can view the following information:
- Partition name or the partition ID
- Operating System (OS) type of the partition
- Current power usage of the partition. Average power usage of the partition during the selected date range
- Minimum power usage of the partition during the selected date range
- Maximum power usage of the partition during the selected date range
- Tags associated with the partition. You can view details about the tag by clicking the tag icon.
