IBM® Power® Enterprise Pools 2.0 (EP 2.0) provides enhanced multisystem resource sharing and by-the-minute consumption of on-premises compute resources to clients who deploy and manage a private cloud infrastructure. Power E1080, Power E980, Power E1050, Power E950, Power S1024, Power S1022, Power S924 (9009-42G), and Power S922 (9009-22G) servers are supported in Power Enterprise Pools 2.0.
The following types of pools are available:
- Power E1080 and Power E980 pool
- Power E1050 and Power E950 pool
- Power S1024, Power S1022, Power S924, and Power S922 pool
All installed processors and memory on servers in a Power Enterprise Pool 2.0 are activated and made available for immediate use when a pool is started. Processor and memory usage on each server are tracked by the minute and aggregated across the pool.
A network outage between HMC and CMC does not affect the purchased base cores or memory of the servers in a pool, nor does it affect the operation of the servers in a pool.
Core and memory usage in the CMC EP2.0 application is not collected, charged, or displayed for the period of the network outage while the network outage is occurring. After the network outage is resolved, up to 24 hours of previous usage may be collected, charged, and displayed. Any usage that occurred during the network outage that cannot be collected after the outage is resolved is not charged or displayed.
In case of a network outage, check the following conditions:
- Does the pool membership CoD code need to be renewed for any system? CoD code renewal cannot be performed during a network outage.
- Were the systems in the pool being throttled before the outage? Throttling cannot be stopped until the network outage is resolved.
If you need assistance to resolve a network outage, contact IBM support.
