Inventory: Managed systems and HMCs overview

You can view and search only for inventory resources that you have permission to view.

The Full Inventory > Managed Systems and HMCs tab displays a list managed systems and Hardware Management Consoles that are available in your environment.

You can restrict the data that you want to view by using data filters. In the Filter by area, select the data type to filter the information that is displayed in the search results. You can filter the information based on the resource type, machine type, model number, and system firmware level. You can filter the HMC information by type, architecture, and HMC level.  You can also search for a managed system or a Hardware Management Console (HMC) by specifying the search string in the Search field. If you search for inventory information about a managed system, the result displays the following information:

• State of the managed system
• Name of the managed system
• Name, type, and architecture of the HMC or virtual HMC (vHMC) that is associated with the managed system.  The HMC level column provides information about the current software level running on the HMC.
• Amount of memory that is available on the managed system
• Number of available processor units on the managed system
• Firmware level of the managed system
• Model number, machine type, IP address, and serial number of the managed system

Click the vertical ellipse in the column header and select a different column from the list to view the information for that column. A managed system can be managed by an HMC or a vHMC. You can view a list of managed systems that are managed by an HMC or vHMC. Filter the information by HMC or vHMC, and then select the "Managed System" column from the vertical ellipse. Click the View all link corresponding to the HMC or vHMC for which you want to view the associated managed systems. The Managed Systems pane lists all the managed systems. Expand a managed system to view more details.

Note: If a managed system is managed by an HMC, the "vHMC" column does not display any value.

A green circle icon indicates a good state of the managed system; whereas a red triangle indicates a bad state. Hover the mouse over the icon to view the state for the managed system.

You can also group resources in this view by assigning them to predefined tag groups. Select any data type from the Filter by area. A list of available resources are displayed in the table. Select the resource that you want to assign to a tag and click Add Tag. Select a tag from a list of tags that is displayed, and click Add. For example, if you want to assign an HMC to a tag, select the data type as HMC in the Filter by area. Select an HMC from the list of management consoles that is displayed in the table, and then click Add Tag. Select a tag from the list and click Add. To manage tags or view all resources that are assigned to a tag, use the Inventory > Manage Tags tab.
